An exhibition of collective memory, of place through artefacts and memorabilia.
Shep Collect was an exhibition that considered the collective memory of place through artefacts and memorabilia. The culture of collecting, which relies heavily on memory and inevitable nostalgia, has the power to link place and people. Community members, history societies, local industries and the Shepparton Council generously loaned items from their collections for this exhibition. Familiar and iconic imagery of local industries sat alongside more personal memories, mementos and stories. This keynote project celebrated the festival theme and presented diverse histories and moments in a contemporary curated format in a non-art public space.
